Just finished up touring on the national Alternative/Metal/Hardcore Soundwave Festival alongside large names such as System Of A Down, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson and Angels & Airwaves, Central Coast Pop Punkers, Heroes For Hire, have well and truly made a big splash into the Australian music industry. After releasing their debut album, Life Of A Party, with their hit song, Bright Lights In Paradise, garnered a lot of attention especially on top radio station, Nova. Since releasing their second album, Take One For The Team, they’ve embarked around Australia many times as support positions for Short Stack and Boys Like Girls, and on a national headlining tour. Only releasing their new single, Heart Stops, a few weeks ago, I decided it was definitely time to catch up with one of the boys, Duane Hazell (Guitar/Vocals) stepped up to the plate.
For someone who has never heard of you, how would you describe ‘Heroes For Hire’?
We're a straight up Pop Punk band that's not trying to reinvent the wheel, but we're defintely working on putting some rims on it.
How did the five of you become Heroes For Hire?
Myself and Lee played in a seperate band to Brad back in the day. He eventually ended up stealing us, and after a few line-up changes we finally found Alex and Potter who have been dumb enough to stick around ever since.
You've just finished touring Australia as part of the Soundwave Festival, what was that like? Did you have a highlight moment from the tour?
It was the best tour I have ever been on. I had the best time of my life so far. It's hard to pick just one stand out moment, but one of my highlights would defintely be getting Bam Margera to drink straight bourbon out of one of our shoes.
There were large named bands on the line-up; did you get star struck by anyone?
Absolutely! I was star struck on a daily basis & getting photos with as many people as I possibly could like a true fan girl.
Is there still that one band you would love to tour with?
Blink 182. That is my Everest. If that ever happens, a day won't go by for the rest of my life where you don't hear me talking about it.
Do you prefer playing small gigs or music festivals? What do you find to be the difference in the atmosphere?
It's hard to say. Festivals are always fun, usually have a huge turnout, plus chances are you'll be playing with some huge named bands that you can watch later on in the day.
But in saying that, some of my favourite shows have been the smaller ones. They are way more intimate & personal.
You just released your new single, Heart Stops, which has seen to get a great reaction. Who came up with the concept for the music video?
It was actually our management. They gave us a rough outline for the idea and we loved it. So we ran with it, and it turned out to be one of our best videos yet in my opinion.
Your second album, Take One For The Team, has been out for nearly a year now. Could we expecting a third album any time soon?
We're currently writing our third album now, and planning to record it midyear. So yes, you can defintely expect a third album.
What’s next for Heroes For Hire?
Besides writing out next album, we've got a bunch of local shows coming up, & we'll be heading to Japan in June to tour with Mayday Parade & a bunch of other rad bands. You can find all the details at www.facebook.com/heroesforhireaus
Where do you hope to see this band in 3 years?
On a billboard in Times Square for a Coca Cola commercial that earned us millions of dollars for selling out.
Heart Stops
Thanking Heroes For Hire for answering some questions, I wish them all the best for the future!
