Rockin' With... For Our Hero

Heard that catchy song Like Clockwork lately and you just can’t work out who the masterminds behind the song are? Well here I come to the rescue. For Our Hero, are an Independent pop/rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Just having released their brand new album, Strange Days (which you can pick up on ITunes or at fist2face.com) I managed to catch up with bassist, Geoffrey, in April previous to the release.

For someone who has never heard of you, how would you describe ‘For Our Hero’?
We're a 5 piece pop/rock band from Melbourne. Our influences range from Fall Out Boy to John Mayer, so you'll hear glimpses of those sounds throughout our catalogue.

How did you become For Our Hero?
I met Beau on a Blink-182 fan site and was asked to join the band before I had even auditioned. After a few lineup changes we picked up Nax and Dave, and the rest is- as they say- history.

You’ve sure come a long way since you first began. Do you have a stand out memory that comes to mind?
Playing the Sydney Opera House with Short Stack in 2010 was a pretty awe-inspiring evening. We literally spent the first year as a band playing to one person bars, so it was a very humbling experience to play to Australia's grandest of stages.

As part of your journey you’ve also been lucky to tour, star alongside and work with some larger named bands especially Australian ones including Short Stack and New Empire. Which of them has been your favourite and why? Did they inspire you? Teach you things? Show you a good time?
The boys from each band absolutely inspire us musically, and we are fortunate enough to call them friends. There is no way I could choose one over the other.
Both Short Stack and New Empire tours were very pivotal in our understanding of the music industry and conduct though. We'd never done anything so professional as the Stack tour before, so we got into a lot of trouble for messing around all the time. I think we kind of learnt how the business side of music works.
The New Empire tour was amazing as well, because it was the first time we had been included into an idea that went beyond music. There was such a chemistry and union amongst the bands backstage. It was very all-for-one.

Who’s that one band you’d love to tour with?
Gym Class Heroes.

You’re also going to be releasing your brand new album soon (currently out now), Can you tell us a bit about it?
We recorded Strange Days back in April 2011, with an American producer Paul Leavitt. We flew over there and spent 6 weeks sleeping on couches- but it was the best time of my life.
It will be out this month.

What was the recording and writing process like compared to your previous EP’s?
We'd never really done pre-production with a producer before, so it was cool to have a third party voice on our music. It helped really shape the songs and make them coherent with one another.

Are there any plans for a national tour to accompany the release of the album?
There certainly is, we will be touring in July. (All dates & information is available at their Facebook Page listed below)

Like Clockwork, is your newest single and has got a really great reaction. Could we see a music video for this soon? And is this a taste of the musical future for For Our Hero?
Thankyou. No video for Clockwork, but certainly an indication as to the direction we are heading musically. I hope you like it!

Where do you hope to see For Our Hero in 3 years?
Just to continue what we do. Every year is a blessing!

Want to hear more? Check out a video the boys made all about Strange Days even with some samples off the album.

A big Thank you to Geoff for answering some questions! Make sure you pick up a copy of Strange Days and head to one of their many listed shows! Wishing For Our Hero all the best for the future!
