Masketta Fall, a 5 piece
Pop/Rock band from Melbourne, Australia. You may know them from the Red Bull
Bedroom Jam or the catchy support act from Tonight Alive or maybe you just know
them as that addictive young fast emerging band hitting the scene. Having been releasing some great music and
touring around Australia thoroughly, I thought it was time to catch up on the
Masketta Fall craziness, and lead singer Braden Daniel was just the person to
talk too!
For someone who has never heard of you, how would you describe
‘Masketta Fall’?
I would describe
Masketta Fall as an upcoming Pop/Rock band, inspired by artists such as Simple
Plan, Good Charlotte, Panic! At the Disco, and Story of the Year.
How did the band form and how did the name ‘Masketta Fall’ come into
play?
We were all friends in
high school and aspiring musicians, and the band formed through mucking around
on our instruments at school.
‘Masketta’ was the name
of a puppy we adopted. We took the puppy to the beach where our guitarist (Ben)
through a stick off a cliff, the determined pooch unfortunately followed it and
plummeted to fatality… ‘Masketta Fall’.
You’ve recently been touring a lot, what has been your favourite show
to date?
Our favourite show has
probably been our self-run show at the Phoenix Youth Centre in Footscray on
June 24th which was sold out with approximately 300 fans.
Any interesting or funny tour stories?
Our most recent show in
Sydney, our drummer (Rolph) thought it would be a great idea to swim in a
fountain in the city. The weather wasn’t exactly appropriate for swimming,
especially at 4:00am.
What are three words that sum up your live show?
Energetic, Fun, Party
Now I also understand your debut EP will be out in a couple of months,
Can you tell us a bit about it? Title? Release Date? Recording & Writing
Process?
Haha, I wish I could
give you that information, but it’s still currently being planned and we don’t
have specifics yet.
What I can tell you is;
we recorded the 6 tracks at Electric Sun Studios with Dave Petrovic and we’re
very happy with the product.
Usually a debut EP is like a first impression when you meet someone,
what kind of impression are you aiming for? How do you want people to remember
Masketta Fall?
We would like to be
remembered for our catch hooks and melodies. We also want to be remembered for
what the songs are about. Our lyrics have meaning to us, and listener can also
relate to what is being sung.
We much prefer that
over the kind of lyrics you would hear in a Nicki Minaj song.
You’re unsigned, are you looking to be signed? Do you think the need to
be signed has decreased over the last couple of years?
We are absolutely
looking to get signed; we all have the dream to pursue a career with what we’re
doing.
We have big
aspirations, and in order to achieve our goals, we’ll need to be taken under
the wing of a record label.
Who do you sight as your musical influences? And musical acts you
personally enjoy listening to?
As I stated in the
answer to question, we are all influenced by Pop/Rock heavyweights such as
Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, and Panic! At the Disco. Whilst we all enjoy
listening to Story of the Year.
Each of us have a
completely different taste in music ranged from light acoustic to death metal.
What’s one thing myself and the readers wouldn’t know about Masketta
Fall?
The first thing that
comes to mind is, although Moli wears basketball jerseys 24/7, he doesn’t
actually watch basketball nor does he have any interest in it.
What do you have planned for the next 6 months? What shows do you have
coming up soon?
Throughout July we are
on support for the For Our Hero tour, and after that we’ll be looking at
running our own shows in each major city.
Amongst all or that
we’ll be back in the studio recording some fresh songs that will feature on the
release following the EP.
Where would you like to be in 3 years?
Within 3 years, our
major goal is to be getting our songs played on commercial radio around
Australia.
Any finishing words?
Masketta Fall loves Tori, sorry we took so long to answer the questions. <3
Without You (My Personal Favourite)
I’d love to Thank Braden for answering some questions, and wishing Masketta
Fall all the best for the future!
Tori Hyland
