Rockin' With... Dream On, Dreamer

Dream On, Dreamer are an Australian six piece metalcore band hailing from Melbourne. Since signing to UNFD (We Are Unified) in mid 2010, they have released their debut EP and album, toured Australia multiple times with various large named bands, appeared in big Australian and foreign music magazines (Kerrang!, Rock Sound) way too many times that I’ve lost count and toured all through Europe. Marcel Gadacz (Vocals), Callan Orr (Guitar), Luke Domic (Guitar), Michael McLeod (Bass/Clean Vocals), Daniel Jungwirth (Keys) and Aaron Fiocca (Drums) make up the large band. Fortunately I got to speak with Daniel Jungwirth, 1/6th of Dream On, Dreamer.

For someone who has never heard of your band, how would you describe ‘Dream On Dreamer’?
I would describe our music as contemporary post-hardcore with singing.

How did the band get together?
A few of us were in a band together before DoD, and when that came to an end, we decided to stick together and make a new band. So we recorded a demo, the response was good, so we started playing shows, and here we are!

What’s the story behind the name, ‘Dream On, Dreamer'?
The band name is really just a reminder to never change who you are, even if people say otherwise; if you're a dreamer, keep dreaming!

You released your first full length studio album, Heartbound, in 2011, Can you tell us a bit about the album? How it came together, Inspirations, Recording etc.
Heartbound was written at the end of 2010/early 2011, and recorded in April 2011 at Chango Studios in Orlando, FL. We wanted to experiment with our writing a little, deviate from the sound of the EP, and in that regard we think we were successful. Everyone was really happy with the LP, we learnt a lot writing and recording the album, had an absolute blast doing it, and we're very keen to get back into the studio!!

Are there any plans for a follow up album yet?
There are indeed plans, 2012 is going to be a busy year.

2011 was an amazing year for you in Australia and in foreign countries. Was there a standout moment or highlight for you?
2011 was a huge year for this band; we recorded an album in the US, toured Europe, got signed to a label we'd all heard of since we were kids, and toured Australia with some of our favourite bands from around the world.
One highlight, we played a show in Melbourne on Boxing Day, and it was absolutely mental. The stage was being torn apart, there were sing-alongs, it was the most fun we'd all had in a long time, and it feels great knowing that people in our home town support us. It felt like all the hard work throughout the year paid off for that show, it was great.

You’ve received a spot on the Soundwave Line up this year, what are you expecting that to be like? Are there any bands you might go watch?
Soundwave is going to be awful, Heroes for Hire... what’s their deal anyway? Nah haha keen, they’re rad; it’s going to be awesome!!
Personally, there is no way I’m not going to become best friends with Brian Warner (Marilyn Manson). The lineup for SW 12 is ridiculously good, there is no way this festival is not going to be the best event ever.

Now you’ve already toured with some big names and will be touring with some bigger ones soon, but is there that one band you would love to tour with?
Thrice has always been a big influence for everyone in this band, they rule, it would be amazing to have the opportunity to play one show with them, one day...

What does Dream On, Dreamer have planned for 2012?
Singles, possible album, tours, beers, get a haircut, tours, beers.

Where do you hope to see this band in 3 years?
Living in a castle on Mt Fuji, ruling over our domain with an Iron Fist of Fun.
