Scream Infamy are an independent four piece pop punk band from Sydney, Australia. Making up the band is Josh (Vocals/Guitar), James (Drums), Damien (Guitar) and Gavin (Bass). Having released two singles, Scene Kid and Liar! Liar!, creating themselves a small fanbase and touring around Sydney, I decided to catch up with the young man who fronts the band, Josh Gonzalez, to see what’s next!
For someone who has never heard of you, how would you describe ‘Scream Infamy’?
I would describe Scream Infamy as a pop punk band, with a few alternative rock, indie and hardcore influences. Our songs are about life experiences, feelings, and most of all fun!
What’s the story behind the name, ‘Scream Infamy’?
Was coming up with band names after me and our drummer wanted to start a new band a few years ago. I guess we just eventually came up with both words randomly, and stuck them together.
How did the band come together? What year did Scream Infamy form?
Well the band came together as a result of me and our drummer James jamming and writing songs for a couple of months in 2009. Towards the end of the year, we managed to find more members, and after a few years of playing shows and writing more songs, we are what we are today.
You released your new single, Liar! Liar!, how have yourself and your fans reacted?
I've been really happy with everyone's reception of the song so far, everyone seems to really connect with it, which is what I wanted. I think it's a pretty self-indulgent effort though, a bit too specific but as long as people love it, I guess I have to be happy! I'm very proud of myself and the band, we've never written a song so dynamic, and our performance in the studio was pretty good too!
Is there a story behind the song?
I guess the song is just about wanting someone to open up to you, and let you in to their lives. I was pretty frustrated at the time that I wrote it, which explains the lyrics. I hope that people connect with it, and draw a connection from their own experiences.
Could we be seeing a music video in the near future?
Hopefully we'll be filming one in the next 6 months, but that depends on how the next few months of writing songs and playing shows goes!
In the recording side of things, could we be expecting a debut EP or album anytime soon?
We're looking to record again in about 5 months, to do an EP, but those plans could easily change. Hopefully by January, we have a new release to promote, whether it be an EP, or something entirely different.
What’s one tour or festival anywhere in the world, you’d love to be on the line up?
Warped Tour! For our genre of music/scene, it's every band's dream to finally make it onto that tour!
What have you guys got planned for the rest of 2012?
We've got some shows in Sydney and surrounding areas coming up, foremost, which you can get all the details for on Facebook! Got some big ones to be announced in the next few weeks. Then depending on how stuff goes, we could be recording again for a release by the end of the year, with more interstate shows!
Where do you hope to see Scream Infamy in 3 years?
Touring nationwide to a loyal fan base, and starting to look overseas! :D
Liar! Liar!
Thank you to Josh for answering some questions and quickly. We wish Scream Infamy all the best for the near future!
