The debut EP from
Sydney’s 16 year old rock chick, Christina Parie has hit the shelves. After she
finished sixth on Australia’s third season of The X Factor, the young lady
didn’t let that stop her – going straight into constant song writing,
recording, landing a record deal with Warner Music Australia and even earning a
support spot on Simple Plan’s Australian ‘Get Your Heart On’ tour.
The five track EP
begins with debut single, 16 &
Unstoppable, a catchy upbeat pop song much like the rest of the record. The
lyrics describing a fun party and reflecting her drive to her future; a great quality
to see from such a young person. Moving through the record gives off a clear
influence of Australia’s punk rock duo, The Veronicas, particularly noticeable
in third song, Back To Life.
The record concludes
with Sorta Wanna Be With Me and Ex Oh; my personal favourites. Ex Oh takes on a slower sound different
from the rest of the EP. Tackling the common teenage girl subjects such as
love, boys, parties, friends, growing up and the future.
The album is easily
summed up as catchy, youthful, pop EP with a slight punk influence. Christina’s overall
package has been well developed and thought, to target the music tastes of
younger females mostly in their teen years, who could look up to her as she
progresses. The record is definitely a strategic move for Christina to hit the
mainstream music scene; but a little bit more of a variety would have been
nice.
